Breathe
A Poem by David C. Roberson
A poem I wrote while quite smitten, for someone who felt somewhat embarrassed after repeatedly drifting off on the phone mid-conversation and devolving into absurd, adorable ramblings. This was my attempt to reassure her.

David C. RobersonBreathe a little bit for me And make some noise to soothe me. My heart can only take so much, But if I die, it's groovy. I'll just pass with subtle smile And steady peace of mind, While knowing nothing of my fate— I'm sure, I'll be just fine. Sigh a little bit for me, Calm my addled brains. Forgive me if I laugh sometimes When you don't know what you say. It's just the night that's creepin' in, Robbin' you of words. I think it's cute when you're confused— It's adorably absurd. I ain't makin' fun, babe, so Don't you dare suspect it. I understand you need your rest; Please don't feel disrespected. Don't feel obliged to even speak— You need your precious sleep. I'm content to lie awake, Just listenin' to you breathe.
