Jesus Spell
A Poem by David C. Roberson
A somewhat surreal, philosophical meditation on time, love, failure, and the comforting illusions we cling to in order to make sense of existence.
Jesus Spell 09/07/2007 by David C. Roberson
Sing a song to pass away the so-called truths of yesterday, all the bile that others lay at my battered window sill. Bring me to a quiet plain where everyone is built the same, where there's no one but yourself to blame for your fearsome, fiery hell. Smoke the grass of child-like friends who will push and condescend. Learn for sure that troubles end as you sit and learn to fail. Love will come to those who wait, but don't too long, or it's too late! Rush to find your perfect mate before your heart beats itself still. Live upon your earthly cell. Time goes far too fast to tell, until the seconds tick and swell, and your flesh begins to peel. Smile and wish that things were well, taste and hear and touch and smell. See the world without a shell, or rest inside your Jesus spell.
